Slime Boss

Act: ACT 1
Slime Boss

Description

The Slime Boss is one of the three possible Act 1 bosses in Slay the Spire, serving as a major early-game challenge for all characters. This massive, gelatinous foe is known for its devastating Slam attack, which can deal huge damage if left unchecked. Unique to the Slime Boss is its ability to Split—once reduced to half health, it divides into two medium Slimes, each capable of summoning additional Spike Slimes or using debuff attacks to weaken the player. Success against the Slime Boss requires smart damage management, careful deck building, and knowing when to push for a split to avoid taking lethal blows. Defeating this boss marks a significant milestone, granting powerful Relics and paving the way into Act 2 of the Spire.

Tips

  • Manage the Slam attack: The Slime Boss’s Slam can deal heavy damage if unprepared. Aim to force its Split before the third turn by dealing at least 70+ total damage, or mitigate the hit with Weak debuffs and strong Block generation.
  • Time the split carefully: When the Slime Boss splits, the resulting Lesser Slimes inherit its remaining HP. To make the fight easier, try to push the boss well below half health in a single turn before the split. This ensures the new slimes start with much lower HP.
  • Apply the same tactic to smaller slimes: The same strategy works when the Medium Slimes split into Spike and Acid Slimes—burst them down in one turn to reduce the health of their offspring and keep the battlefield under control.

Trivia

The Slime Boss in Slay the Spire gets its name as a playful parody of a “Crime Boss.” Its design features a mafia-style fedora, and its signature ability to split into smaller slimes serves as a clever reference to the never-ending cycle of mob families, where taking down one boss only leads to more underlings rising up to replace them.
